Diesel-electric locomotive, British Railways, Type 1, Class 20 No. 20050, formerly D8000, built by English Electric in 1957, withdrawn in 1981.

D8000, built by the English Electric Company at the Vulcan Foundry near Warrington, was delivered to British Railways on 2 June 1957, at a cost of £58,143. It was technically the first production main line diesel locomotive to appear under the BR Modernisation Plan announced in January 1955. A total of 228 such locomotives were completed by English Electric up to early 1968, later in which year the design was re-designated Class 20 and subsequently re-numbered.

Inspired by American diesel locomotive practice these highly successful locomotives were primarily built to undertake local and trip freight workings on the main line.

This locomotive last operated on British Rail in 1980, painted blue and numbered 20050. It has since been restored to its original green and grey livery and running number.

Our model depicts D8000 as it is currently displayed in the Railway Museum at York and features our signature 'Museum Sheen' finish.
