N-Gauge Class 66 No.66788 'Locomotion 15' - SOUND FITTED

Revolution’s new Class 66 locomotive will feature the very latest in detailing, light and sound features, and the tooling allows for our Railway Icons offering - No.66788 to be correctly depicted as the former EWS locomotive acquired by GBRf in 2018. The model will feature accurate details including swinghead buckeye coupler and control lever, locomotive location beacon on the horn grille and original BMAC design lights. It will not have the distinctive driver cab mirrors as these have been removed by GBRf.

Model Features:
- Next generation heavy, diecast chassis with smooth running, low friction and low geared design.
- Highly detailed injection moulded body with photo-etched, wire, and plastic detail parts.
- Lift off, easy-access central body section (as per the prototype!) to allow access to the decoder socket and switches.
- Etched nameplates supplied.
- Working accurate headlights including working marker lights.
- Lights switchable using easy to access micro-switches or with DCC Next 28 (ESU E24) decoder socket.
- Factory fitted speaker for easy sound fitting.
- Body-mounted, kinematic close couplers with NEM coupler sockets.

One of the most ubiquitous diesel classes in the UK, 480 examples were built for the UK market with additional examples being imported from other countries pools to bolster the amount in service in the UK. The Class 66 is a progression of the privately commissioned Class 59 that Foster Yeoman had constructed to replace their aging and failing BREL locomotives. The class shares the same body as the 59 but has uprated internals, and in May 1996 EWS placed an order for 250 units to be built in Ontario. These would set EWS back £375 million, with the first units arriving relatively quickly in early 1998. The locomotives would be in service from the point they touched down at Newport Docks, with the locomotives shipped already filled with water and fuel. The last such example arrived in the UK in spring 2016.

Class 66 number 66788 was acquired by GBRf in 2018, and in September 2019, the locomotive was named 'Locomotion 15' to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the opening of Locomotion in Shildon, partner museum to the National Railway Museum in York. Locomotion has a particular role in highlighting the vital role the railways have had in moving freight, and naming the locomotive in its honour was especially appropriate.
